Barbara Jordan |
Barbara Jordan was raised in Orinda, CA. At the age of 14, Barbara was the youngest member of the 1952 United States Olympic Swim Team and placed fifth in the 100 meter backstroke in Helsinki, Finland. As no swimming scholarships were available to women at that time, she retired from swimming competition in 1955 and attended the University of California at Berkeley.
After college Barbara married and while living in Piedmont, she had two children. She now has four grandchildren. Both of her children live in the Bay Area. Just so you know the apple never falls far from the tree, her son was also an Olympian of the 2000 Olympic Sailing Team.
Barbara was a swimming instructor and went back to Cal Berkeley to coach the first Intercollegiate Women's Swim Team after Title IX (9) went into effect in 1976. She also worked for 18 years as an Assistant Vice-President of Wells Fargo.
Barbara has been on numerous volunteer boards including the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America and the Northern California Olympian Alumni Club. For the past three years she has lived in Rossmoor, Walnut Creek, and took up golf five years ago. She is past membership chairwoman and past Captain of the Rossmoor Niners. She has served on the Golf Advisory Committee and is presently serving on the Aquatic Advisory Committee at Rossmoor. She swims three times per week, plays golf three times a week and walks her Jack Russell Terrier for one hour each day.
Barbara is looking forward to serving as Membership Chairwoman of WNHGA for 2010. |

Mary-Kevin started playing golf three years ago when she and her husband joined Valley Hi Country Club. She immediately became involved with the Niners. She has participated in all tournament formats offered at her club, including Match Play, Tournament of Champions, Team Play and Couples Tournament. She played in the WNHGA Tournament of Champions for the past two years and enjoys playing in Invitational Tournaments.
She is currently serving as Tournament Chairman for the Valley Hi Niners and is looking forward to her duties as WNHGA Tournament of Champions Chairman. |

Nora Hinds |
Nora Hinds was born in San Francisco and grew up in the nearby community of San Rafael. She graduated from CSU, Chico, where she met her husband, George. George and Nora moved to Merced in 1972.
After they joined the Merced Golf and Country Club, Nora took up golf to avoid becoming a golf widow. She has been very active in the Merced Nine-Tee-Niners holding the offices of captain, secretary, special tournaments chair, handicapper and team play captain.
The friends she has made through her involvement with the Niners and their many road trips together are the highlights of her golf career. Nora loves to travel, especially to Hawaii where she spends two weeks every year with her family (all grandchildren included).
Nora looks forward to serving as your Team Play Director this year. |

Pat Baker |
Pat Baker has been retired for six years from a career in probation work in Florida and California. She has two children who are married and living on each coast, New York City and San Francisco; she also has one grandchild.
She began playing golf five years ago. After playing three times and always alone as she didn’t want to ruin anyone else’s game, she signed up to go on a golfing trip. Two weeks later she was golfing in Acapulco and totally fell in love with the game! After several other golfing trips and numerous lessons later, she joined the Rossmoor Niners. She served on the Board for several positions.
Last year she discovered the wealth of assistance, ideas and programs WNHGA brought to women’s golf and wanted to support and promote WNHGA. She is looking forward to furthering the joy gained from golfing with this organization as your Open Day Director. |

Sue Bowen |
Sue Bowen: Member Marin Country Club, Past Captain of MCC Nine Holers, Current Rules Chair of MCC Nine Holers, Retired English/speech/drama teacher.
Sue is the mother of two daughters and grandmother of five grandchildren (four boys and one girl). Her oldest daughter lives in the London Suburb of Richmond and is a professor of Islamic studies at the Aga Khan University. The second daughter lives in Williamstown, MA and is executive director of a public charter middle and high school.
Sue has been married to Bill Bowen since 1966. They have lived in Washington DC, Denver, CO, Milwaukee, WI, Chicago, IL and retired to San Francisco where they live in the Marina District.
Sue is a mediocre golfer (at best) but loves the game, and truly enjoys the rules. It gives the game so much more interest and it is fun to see how the rules can truly help your score.
Her philosophy “If you keep up (pace of play), follow golf etiquette and rules, you can play with anyone. No one cares what your score is but they do care that you play quickly and understand the etiquette and rules. Nine Holes of golf should never take more than 2 hours and 15 minutes. MCC Nine Holers play in 2 hours and 8 minutes because that is course policy. And we have found that our handicap drops as we play in a timely fashion. We save our chatting for a long, leisure lunch.”
